《建國百年座談》蕭副總統蒞金聽取各界建言

As Chairman of ROC Centennial (1) Preparatory (2) Committee, Vice-President Vincent C. Siew (蕭萬長) made a tour of Kinmen, and hosted a local symposium (3) to listen to suggestions from various circles.
　 兼任中華民國建國百年慶祝活動籌備委員會主委的副總統蕭萬長，26日巡迴金門舉辦座談會，聽取金門各界意見。

Emile Chihjen Sheng (盛治仁), the Chairman of the Council for Cultural Affairs and the Executive Officer of ROC Centennial Preparatory Committee, introduced the plan for the upcoming celebration. He indicated that the celebration will take place in Kinmen's Peace Memorial Park. Bombshells from the previous wars will be cast into a Peace Bell, steel pen, steel cup, and knife tools, etc. The Peace Bell's ringing ritual (4) will be performed on August 23rd, 2011.
　 建國百年籌備委員會執行長的文建會主委盛治仁特別說明慶典活動規劃。他指出，活動將在金門和平紀念園區舉行，以過去戰爭使用過的砲彈來鑄造和平鐘以及紀念鋼筆、鋼杯、生活刀具等，其中「敲鐘」儀式時間訂在民國100年8月23日。

Emile stated that a bell is used to symbolize unique values in many countries, or used to commemorate a special event as with the Freedom Bell in Washington D.C. Bells not only contain memorial significance, but also bring additional tourist attraction, thus turning themselves into new points of interest. The Peace Bell made in Kinmen is expected to bring the same clout (5) in the near future, helping more people to understand the value and conviction (6) of peace.
　 盛治仁表示，「鐘」在許多國家都被用來彰顯特殊的價值，或紀念特別的事件，例如美國華盛頓特區的自由鐘。這些「鐘」除了紀念意義，後續也發揮觀光效益，成為新的旅遊景點。未來在金門打造的和平鐘，期盼亦有相同的效益，讓更多人深刻體會和平的信念與價值。

The symposium participants raised many suggestions including building a Kinmen Arts Museum, constructing a Kinmen-Dadeng Bridge, setting up a "Share the Same Birthday with the Nation" monument in National Quemoy University, and carving an inscription about the ROC's foundation and the history of Kinmen on the monument. In addition, symposium participants suggested that Kinmen host the international cycling competition and marathon, and name these events the "Centennial Memorial Classics".
　 與會者則提出許多意見，包括，興建金門美術館、金嶝大橋；在金門大學設置「壽與國同」紀念碑，篆刻建國歷史碑文與金門史實；舉辦國際自由車、馬拉松等競賽，定名為「百年經典紀念賽」等。
