Hello! This year, four Fulbright English Teaching Assistants (ETAs) will write two English-language articles per month for Kinmen Newspaper. Fulbright is an American scholarship program that sends Americans overseas to study, research, or teach English.
As ETAs, we teach English in Kinmen's elementary schools. Although we have different backgrounds, we are all excited to learn about Kinmen and share American culture with you. This week, we will introduce ourselves.
Dominique Fortes is from New Jersey. She graduated from Seton Hall University with a degree in accounting. She teaches 3rd through 6th grade at Duo Nian Elementary School (多年國小). In her free time, Dominique enjoys photography and soccer. She is excited for the year ahead and looks forward to learning more about Kinmen and sharing her experiences.
Ellen Miller was born in Cincinnati, Ohio. She graduated from Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, where she studied visual art and art history. When she's not busy teaching 2nd through 6th graders at Jin Ning Elementary School (金寧國小), she enjoys running, drawing, and drinking coffee. She intends to create lots of Kinmen-inspired art this year and cannot wait to share it!
David Stage was born in Fulton, Illinois. He attended the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign and graduated in May 2017 with a degree in history and secondary education. He studied abroad in Durham, England and Xi'an, China. His hobbies include reading, playing video games, and playing basketball. He teaches 3rd through 6th grade at He Pu Elementary School (何浦國小) and is excited to write about American culture and politics for Kinmen Newspaper.
Hayden Bunker is from Vermont and graduated from Reed College with a degree in English literature and Spanish language. Although he never studied Chinese before coming to Kinmen, he has enjoyed interacting with the community and learning from a National Quemoy University student. Hayden teaches 3rd through 6th grades at Shu Mei Elementary School (述美國小) and is very interested in Shakespeare, language, and music!
We look forward to the year ahead! If you have any questions about the authors, English language, American culture, or want to suggest an article topic, please feel free to email us in Chinese or English at kinmenetas@gmail.com. We would love to hear from you! Thank you very much!
