The government is planning to give each Taiwanese a one-off cash payment of NT$6,000 (about US$195.35) as a rebate from what has been described as surplus tax revenue, Premier Su Tseng-chang (蘇貞昌) said.

行政院長蘇貞昌表示政府計劃一次性發放每人新台幣6,000元（約196.35美元）現金的盈餘稅收返還。

The Ministry of Finance recently estimated that last year's tax revenue would exceed the amount budgeted by NT$450 billion, after the central government collected more than NT$3 trillion in tax revenue for the first 11 months of 2022.

The government would spend most of the NT$450 billion surplus tax revenue on initiatives, such as providing financial support to close financing gaps in the Labor Insurance and National Health Insurance funds as well as subsidizing electricity prices, the Presidential Office said in a statement.

The government would also distribute NT$70 billion of the total to local governments, while leaving a reserve of NT$180 billion, part of which would be "shared with the people," according to the statement.
