Hello everyone. My name is Garles. Today, I would like to introduce a very special sea animal—the red handfish. Sadly, this unique fish is endangered, which means it is at risk of disappearing forever. This is why the red handfish is an animal that needs our attention and protection.
The red handfish is a small fish that lives in the ocean. It is about 7 to 9 centimeters long. Its body is bright red, and its head is quite large for its size. Unlike most fish, the red handfish is not good at swimming. It usually stays on the bottom of the sea and moves very slowly.
What makes the red handfish special is its fins. Its front fins look like small hands. Instead of swimming, it uses these fins to walk on the sea floor. This behavior is very rare among fish. When people see it move, it looks like the fish is walking with tiny arms.
There are fewer than 100 red handfish left in the wild. They are only found in two small areas near the coast of Tasmania, Australia. Because the population is so small, the red handfish is in great danger of extinction.
The red handfish lives in shallow, rocky areas under the sea. These places have rocks, sand, and seaweed, which help the fish hide and stay safe. Clean water is very important for the red handfish to survive.
However, the red handfish faces many threats. Pollution makes the ocean dirty and unsafe. Fishing activities can damage the sea floor where the fish live. Human activities and boats also destroy their homes. In addition, climate change changes the ocean temperature, which is harmful to the red handfish.
To protect this special animal, scientists in Tasmania are working hard. They protect the areas where the fish live and study them carefully. They also raise baby red handfish in tanks and later release them into the ocean. Although some of these efforts are helping, the number of red handfish in the wild is still very small. More protection is needed to save this rare fish.
This topic is meaningful to me because I have been to Tasmania. During my trip, I learned about the red handfish and the efforts to protect it. Seeing how rare and special this fish is made me understand why it is important to protect endangered animals. This experience helped me care more about the ocean and the environment.
