More than 20,600 people were killed in Turkey and 3,500 in Syria, according to officials in the region, after a magnitude 7.8 earthquake struck on Monday（Feb.6）.The city of Reyhanli is in a state of anarchy, with power and water shortages. With resources limited, there could soon be a food crisis.

As the death and injury toll in earthquake-struck Turkey rises, cash donations have flowed from across Taiwan. The special disaster relief account set up by the health and welfare ministry had accumulated a total of more than NT$271.77 million (US$9.02 million) on Friday（Feb.10）, the Ministry of Health and Welfare said in a statement. An outpouring of sympathy has manifested itself in more than NT$270 million of donations, as well as thousands of boxes of clothing.

The Turkish Trade Office in Taipeisaid in a statement that it is grateful for the generosity and kindness of Taiwanese who have donated money and goods to assist earthquake victims, with the quantity being more than expected.Meanwhile, the Office in Taipei said that it must stop accepting relief supplies at its office because it has received more than it can handle. It was even forced to announce on Saturday that it would stop accepting non-monetary donations.

To alleviate the piles of donated goods, the army will dispatch 10 trucks and 30 troops to take them to the airport on Feb.13.In addition to the military's involvement, private enterprises such as PX Mart, I-Mei Foods, and Lealea Group are dispatching their trucks to help with transporting relief materials to the airport. Both the government and people of Taiwan help Turkey get through the disaster.Taiwan has also sent two search-and-rescue teams totaling 130 members and five search dogs to help find survivors.
